Two tank scuba dive

Two boat dives in one morning out of Port Zante, with the surface interval spent on the boat. US$229 a diver with every piece of gear in the price, or US$199 if you bring your own. Boats run Monday to Saturday mornings. Certified divers only, so bring your card, because no card means no dive and the crew will not bend on it.

Diving several days in a row costs less per dive. Two days and four dives is US$449, three days and six dives is US$669, five days and ten dives is US$1,115, all with gear.

Lunch is not included. Neither is camera hire, and neither is dive insurance.

The boat takes no deposit when you book. We send an invoice link once the morning is confirmed, and that is the only payment you make. Card payments on this island commonly carry a 4.5 percent fee. We do not add one.

What do you dive on?

Wrecks and reef, on the Caribbean side, which is the sheltered coast.

Three wrecks are named on the regular rotation: the River Taw, the Talata and the MV Corinthian. Which two sites you get on your morning, how deep they sit and which order the boat runs them in are not published in advance. We confirm that in writing when we confirm the booking.

The dive guide goes in the water with the group and stays with it. That is standard here for a reason worth knowing before you arrive: the beaches in St Kitts are not supervised, there are no lifeguards and no warning flags, and Canada’s government travel advice says rescue services may not meet international standards. On the boat you are with a crew. Off it, on your own, you are not.

Bring your logbook if you keep one. The crew will ask when you last dived.

How long does it take, and will it fit a cruise day?

A morning, Monday to Saturday.

The boat leaves from Port Zante, which is where the ships come alongside, so there is no taxi and no transfer on either end of the day. Most calls in Basseterre are alongside from about 8am to 5pm or 6pm, and a morning dive sits inside that with hours to spare. We do not have a published departure time for the boat. We confirm it in writing when we confirm your booking, and you will have it before you pay.

One thing to count backwards from. No flying within 18 hours of your last dive. If you are on a ship that is fine, but if you fly home the next morning, work out the gap before you book rather than at the dock.

What should you bring?

Your certification card. Not a photo of it on your phone if you can help it, though a clear photo has been accepted; the card itself removes the argument.

A towel and a change of clothes. You come back wet and the boat has no shower.

Something for seasickness, taken before you board. Taken after, it does nothing for you.

Sun cover for the surface interval. You sit on an open boat between dives with the sun straight overhead.

Small notes in cash for the crew. Tips are appreciated here and never required. US dollars are accepted everywhere on the island.

Who should not book this one

Anyone without an open water certification. This is not a first dive, and we sell a separate first dive for that.

Anyone who has been out of the water a long stretch. Do a refresher, or a recent dive somewhere, before you take two tanks off a boat in open water.

Anyone flying within 18 hours of surfacing.

The standard dive medical questionnaire applies, and the conditions that stop a dive on it are the usual ones: asthma, heart conditions, recent surgery, pregnancy. Sort any of those out with your doctor before you book. The crew will not clear you at the dock and should not.

We have no published minimum age for the boat dive. We confirm it when we confirm the booking.

What happens if the weather turns, or your ship is late?

Rain on its own does not cancel a dive. You are getting wet anyway.

Sea state does. If the boat calls it off, you pay nothing, and anything already paid comes back in full. There is no fee and no credit note.

A late ship is harder on this one than on a drive. The boat leaves at a fixed time with other divers aboard and it will not hold for a delayed call. If your ship arrives too late for the morning, tell us as soon as you know and we will either move you to another day or refund you in full.

Book it

Tell us your date, how many divers, your certification level and the year of your last dive, whether you are bringing your own gear, and your ship name if you are on one. We confirm the morning with the boat and come back to you within one working day. Only then do we send a payment link, and nothing is charged until the dive is confirmed.

Questions people ask

Do I really need my certification card?

Yes. Open water or above, in your hand, at the dock. There is no instructor sign-off that gets around it on a two tank boat dive, and a crew that waved you through would be the wrong crew to dive with.

Can my partner come on the boat without diving?

Yes, for US$95, where the boat has a spare seat. They sit out both dives, which means roughly two hours on the water in the sun, so send them with a hat.

What does it cost if I bring my own kit?

US$199 instead of US$229. Tanks and weights stay in the price either way, because tanks are filled here and you are not flying with them. If you want to hire gear for a separate day away from the boat we can quote that, and we will put the figure in writing before you commit.

Is there a deposit?

No. The boat takes nothing at booking. We send one invoice link after the morning is confirmed and that settles it in full, with no card fee added on top.

Can I do one dive instead of two?

The boat prices the morning as two dives, so that is what this page sells. A single dive is not published. Ask on the form and we will come back with a figure in writing.

When can I fly after diving?

Eighteen hours after your last dive, at the earliest. That is the rule the crew works to and it does not flex for a flight time.
